As of the 2012 model year, the Nissan LEAF is even easier to get here in America, as it's been released in 36 states nationwide. Globally, the popularity of the Leaf continues to grow, and to promote the EV lifestyle, Nissan has announced that they'll be giving away 400 quick chargers to fuel stations across the continent.
Pierre Loing, VP of Nissan's Product Planning and Zero Unit says, "With a significant number of (quick chargers) available across Europe, EV owners will be able to recharge quickly no matter where they go. We believe this is essential for the mass adoption of EVs."1
These particular chargers from Nissan have quite the oomph, as well. Plugged into a quick charger, the lithium-ion batteries that power the Leaf can be charged from zero to eighty percent in just half an hour! With all of these additional charging stations plus a mileage range of just under 100 miles, drivers will be well equipped to take road trips throughout Europe.
Information on the exact locations for the new quick chargers has yet to be released, but they'll be installed early in 2012. And there's more: all new Leaf owners in Europe will get free or discounted charging for an entire year, according to one car blog.
What does this mean for us? Well, if the Leaf continues to gain global popularity, U.S. customers will see improved technology and support for the EV lifestyle. Pretty cool, right? Royal Nissan certainly thinks so.
