Nissan Expands Crash-Avoidance Technology Availability

As far as Royal Nissan is concerned, safety is the most important thing to consider when shopping for a new car. Of course, we like new technology and comfort features, but it just doesn't seem right that the most advanced safety technologies are usually only available on expensive luxury vehicles. But, Nissan has pioneered innovative and wallet-friendly safety technology for years, they were even the first automaker to make Brake Override Technology a standard feature across their lineup - long before Congress decided to make it a mandatory feature in all vehicles.

So, it didn't particularly surprise us to hear that Nissan was hard at work making their accident-avoidance technologies accessible to everybody, regardless of budget constraints. With their drivers' best interests in mind, Nissan has modified their current Around View Monitors to serve as a collision-warning system. Using two wide-angle cameras and advanced image processing, the device works to detect pedestrians, lane departure, and even functions as a blind-spot warning system. And, according to Nissan, the Multi-Sensing System will work just as well as high-end laser systems under ideal conditions.

Considering that a recent study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) revealed that accident-avoidance technologies could cut car accidents by one-third, we're happy to say that you can expect this technology to be available early this year. It will like come as part of a safety package, but only for an additional cost of a few hundred dollars (compared to the thousands that a radar system can cost). It was developed in-house by Nissan, so its initial release will be exclusive to vehicles like the Nissan Rogue and Altima.
