The classic Cannonball Run is headed overseas, and is running a combination of gasoline vehicles along with some alternative fuel alternatives.

The Nissan LEAF EV that was released to the market earlier this year has become popular among consumers.  To date over ten thousand units have been sold.  Nissan doesn't plan on stopping there.  They've already developed and launched a new Blackberry and Android app to assist LEAF owners.

The most recent of which, is a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Nissan LEAF has been widely accepted by customers.  It has also been named the greenest vehicle on the market.  However, Nissan is now pushing the "green" boundaries even more.  Their goal is to reduce the LEAF's draw on the grid by utilizing solar power and to mitigate battery waste.

Nissan was planning on producing the popular electric LEAF in the U.S. starting as early as December 2012.  Manufacturing of the vehicles battery was to start in the U.S. in September 2012.  Although this is a significant amount of time from now the March 11 earthquake that devastated areas of Japan affected Nissan more than anyone originally thought.
